This once-in-a-lifetime photographic safaris led by one of our professional wildlife photographers and photo hosts will take you on an exciting journey to witness and get close to the action of the great wildebeest migration here in the north of Tanzania. This photo safari includes two chartered flights, designed to get you into the action quickly and spend time with one of Earth's most fascinating movements on the planet.

As wildlife photography opportunities here are endless, this four guest group photo safari will also give you the opportunity to stay at an extraordinary mobile tented camp, purposely submerging you into the action of the great migration and more. As the camps are mobile, we can guarantee that you will be one click away from your ideal shot.

Small Group Photo Safari

We keep our numbers low for many reasons, taking into consideration the wellbeing of our guests, but also the delicate wildlife we are immersed with on this tour.

FOR OUR GUESTS: We are proud to offer our guests a group tour with the luxury of exclusivity. By keeping our group sizes small, you will have more opportunities to work one-on-one with your professional photo guide. Keeping the group small allows for guests to enjoy a more personal experience, perfect for any skill level photographer.

FOR THE WILDLIFE: Small groups promote a healthier environment for the wildlife we have the privilege to visit on safari. We understand that we are entering their habitat and we would like to ensure that we do not influence their behaviours in any way. We are here to observe and photograph their natural behaviours and habitat without making an impact that will change their natural way of life.

Fitness Level

MODERATE / NOT PHYSICALLY DEMANDING

This tour does not require guests to be physically fit, as there is no strenuous activities planned.

With that being said, all safaris will be game drives that last between 3 to 4 hours long and on gravel or dirt roads that are not as smooth as a tarmac road. Our expert drivers do their best to make the game drives and transfers as smooth and comfortable as possible for guests, but roads can be bumpy at some stages, especially when going off-road where aloud.

Early mornings and long safari drives can be quite tiring, but the adrenaline and excitement usually keeps guests going. If you are ever feeling too tired to join a game drive, there is plenty of wildlife that can be seen and photographed around the camps.

Fly into the Mara Region of the Northern Serengeti, getting you right in the middle of the action!

Experience the Wildebeest Great Migration as they head to the Mara River. Witness the thousands of Wildebeests making the great journey north, crossing through rivers, where the Nile Crocodiles await.

Photograph the species that follow the Wildebeest. Commonly found around the migrational herd will be Zebra, Thomson's Gazelle, and Eland.

Along with the Great Migration mega herds, guests will have the opportunity to explore the nearby plains in search of the predators that lurk close by including lions, leopards, cheetah, and more

This all-inclusive photo safari is located at a mobile camp that has been places precisely to keep close to the millions of animals making their way to Kenya.

Equipment to Bring

CAMERA BODY:

Guests are encouraged to bring a camera body with a minimum of 24-megapixels to guarantee the best results while on safari. This can be mirrorless or a DSLR, as myself and Mark are experienced with both and will be able to offer assistance whenever need be.

A second camera body is always a great consideration, however, this is not mandatory. This can be used as a backup, or you can keep a second lens attached and switch back and forth between cameras.

LENSES:

A telephoto lens with a reach of at least 500 mm
- This can be a fixed/prime lens or a zoom lens

If you intend to bring a fixed/prime lens of 500 mm or more, you will also need a closer range lens
- A 100 - 400 mm or similar is a great option, as this will allow you to get shots of wildlife that comes closer to the vehicle

Accommodation

Gnu Mara River Camp is in the Kogatende area, Northern Serengeti, and just a few minute drive from the famous Mara River, where the most remarkable land mammal of more than 2.5 million wildebeest and zebras crosses while migrating to Maasai Mara.

The camp is open from June to Mid November each year.

Accommodation tent includes eight standard tents which can be configured as double, twin or triple and two family tents. Bar and restaurant is available for in house guests.

Daily Itinerary

DAYS 3 - 7

2 SAFARIS DAILY - NORTHERN SERENGETI

Each day we will start with breakfast in the tented camp. You will have a morning and afternoon photo safari dedicated to the famous Wildebeest Great Migration, with lunch and a photographic discussion back at the tented camp. If we hear of any migrational movements, the decision may be made to go out on a full day safari with a packed lunch. This will be decided on the day and be dependent on the migrating herds.

Each drive, we will venture to the Kogatende Area in the Serengeti where the area is packed at this time of year with enormous herds of Wildebeest and Zebra. The group will visit the river banks in hopes to see the famous Mara River crossings of large herds making for fantastic photographic opportunities. These mega herds attract numerous predators such as Lion and Nile Crocodile that pick off individuals, perfect for untamed action shots.

Each evening, we will have dinner and beverages, you can relax around the fire under the stars and soak in the wilderness of the Northern Serengeti in all its glory. An optional photographic critique will take place each evening.

DAY 8

MORNING SAFARI / FLY TO ARUSHA / END OF TOUR

Today we take our leave after breakfast. The group will take their final game drive en route to the airstrip to get those final photographs. Here guests can bid farewell to our trackers and drivers. This final step will fly you over this vast African wilderness from Kogatende Airstrip to Arusha Airport.

From here, guests will be transferred to Kilimanjaro International Airport or their accommodation of choice where we will say our farewells.

DAY 2

FLY TO MARA REGION / AFTERNOON SAFARI

The group will make their way to Arusha Airport where we will fly to the northern region (Kogatende) of the Serengeti National Park. After a short fly over the great plains of Africa, we will arrive at our destination. From here, our safari vehicle will bbe awaiting us to drive us to the lodge, but keep your cameras ready, as you never know what may be waiting to welcome us to the Serengeti.

Upon arriving at our mobile camp, the group will get settled and meet for lunch. After lunch, we will kick start this photo safari with a quick photographic tutorial before we head out on our afternoon safari to get a feel of the area and the wildlife we are immerse in.

We will return to the lodge where guests are welcome to sit down with your photo host to get some one-on-one tutoring or start your image selection process. Dinner will be served at the lodge.

DAY 1

ARRIVAL DAY

The first day is designed for all photography participants to arrive in Arusha at their own leisure. Untamed Photo Safaris will arrange transfers from Kilimanjaro International Airport (airport code JRO) for each photographer’s arrival.

The tour will start at 6 pm on this day, where the group will meet for the first time. I will be awaiting you with welcome drinks as we go through the itinerary, ask any questions, and get to know the fellow photographers in your group.

After our briefing/meet and greet, we will move over to the restaurant for dinner. After dinner you will have the opportunity to relax with the others in the group.
